The Witches’ Pyramid
To Know, To Dare, To Will, and To Keep Silent …

These four principles make up what is known as “The Witches’ Pyramid”. These four principles are VERY important when it comes to The Craft, but what do they mean?

To Know // There are a multitude of things that can and should be learned in The Craft, but the most important thing is to know yourself, your motives, and intentions for learning The Craft. You should know your strengths and understand your weaknesses. You should know how those things affect you and the ones that are around you. The practitioner has to know his inner-self and true nature. It takes a person with great courage to face him/herself, because it requires being 100% honest with yourself. Nobody likes a “know it all”, but a dabbler is just as much of a problem. A practitioner of The Craft who refuses to look in the mirror and see what others see is only fooling him/herself.

To Dare // To gather the courage. You have to be willing to take a step out of the mundane and into the realm of belief, mystery, and faith. No belief system in this world exists without faith, so it is prudent that you dare yourself. Don’t do something foolish or blindly. Know yourself, those around you, and The Craft. A practitioner who refuses to try or learn is NOT a practitioner, but merely one who is curious. It’s not as exciting as it seems, the Hollywood portrayals of The Craft are far from reality; you have to have the courage to know the truth about what is and what isn’t.

To Will // You can’t accomplish anything in this world without hard work and determination, learning The Craft is no different. It takes focus, energy, and some serious dedication, but most importantly it takes patience. You have to want to know The Craft to learn it, you have to have the will to learn it. Learning something new might challenge you to re-evaluate your views of the world. You have to be willing to grow and change, because learning is a never-ending process.

To Keep Silent // Common sense dictates that not everything should be shared or put on display for the whole world to see. Not everyone understands or agrees with the idea of coexisting, plus, being “in your face” does not but foster animosity towards you. Keeping silent also helps us take in and enjoy the world around us. It allows for a deeper, more personal connection with the Divine. It is also a good method for restoring one’s spiritual resources.
